Just curious... what is the going rate for a family lawyer these days? I don't know what is considered the norm, expensive, or cheap. I just terminated the services of one that charges $225 per hour plus disbursements. The one that I am considering now based on a recommendation charges $280/hr... going up to $290 in the new year.

I wish I knew
A recommendation for us when we were looking for a friend came up tons was Gord McSevenney

Could you call a couple offices and find out?

It depends on how long they've been practicing - a newly called lawyer may charge $150. One with 20 yrs experience could charge $350-400
